How to Prepare for Your Free Website Review

The more you prepare, the more valuable your consultation will be. Answer these 10 questions before we meet — and we'll hit the ground running.

Your Homework Before We Talk

When you schedule a free website review with AKR, we don't just glance at your site and give generic advice. We dig in. But to give you the best possible recommendations, we need you to think through a few things first.

These 10 questions will help us understand your business, your competition, and your goals — so your 15-20 minute consultation is focused, actionable, and worth your time.

Preparing for business review

Pro Tip: Write It Down

Don't try to answer these off the top of your head during the call. Take 15-20 minutes beforehand to jot down your thoughts. Bring your notes to the consultation. The more prepared you are, the more specific and valuable our recommendations will be.

Question 1

What Makes You Unique?

What sets your business apart from every other company in your area doing what you do? Think about your story, your approach, your experience, or your guarantees. We need to understand what makes you different so we can make your website say it clearly.

Your Action: Write down 3-5 things that make your business different from competitors. Think about what your best customers say about you.

Question 2

Know Your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats

This is a quick SWOT analysis. What does your business do really well? Where do you struggle? What opportunities are you not taking advantage of? What outside factors threaten your growth? Being candid here helps us build a website that plays to your strengths.

Your Action: List 2-3 items for each: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats facing your business right now.

Question 3

Who Are Your Top 4-5 Competitors?

Who are the companies in your area (or online) that you feel are taking business from you? Where do you think they're winning and you're losing? We'll look at their websites, their marketing, and find the gaps we can exploit for you.

Your Action: List 4-5 competitors by name. Note what you think they do better than you and where they show up that you don't.

Question 4

What Do You Think of Your Current Website?

When was your website built? Why was it built? Is the information still accurate, or has your business changed since then? Many small businesses have outdated websites that no longer reflect what they actually offer. We need to know what's changed.

Your Action: Note when your site was built, who built it, and list anything that's outdated or no longer accurate.

Question 5

List All Your Products and Services

Write down every product and service you offer — even the ones you don't currently promote. Sometimes the services you're not advertising are the ones with the highest demand or best margins. Your website should showcase everything you can do.

Your Action: Make a complete list of every product and service your business offers, even ones you've stopped promoting.

Question 6

What Are Your Most Profitable Products or Services?

Not all services are created equal. Which ones bring in the most profit? Which ones do you want to do more of? We'll make sure your website highlights the work that makes you the most money and drives leads toward those high-value services.

Your Action: Identify your top 2-3 most profitable offerings and whether you want them featured prominently on your website.

Question 7

Associations, Certifications & Trust Signals

Are you a member of any trade associations, chambers of commerce, or industry groups? Do you have certifications, licenses, or awards? These are powerful trust signals. Linking to these organizations and displaying badges builds instant credibility with visitors.

Your Action: List any memberships, certifications, licenses, BBB ratings, awards, or trade associations you belong to.

Question 8

What's Your Current Social Media Presence?

Which platforms are you on — Facebook, Instagram, Google Business, YouTube, LinkedIn? How active are you? Are your profiles up to date? Social media feeds into your website strategy, and we need to know where you stand so we can connect everything.

Your Action: List every social media account your business has, how often you post, and whether the profiles are current.

Question 9

What Are Your Online Review Scores?

What's your Google rating? How many reviews do you have? What about Yelp, Facebook, or industry-specific review sites? Online reviews are one of the most powerful factors in local search. We'll help you showcase them and build a strategy to get more.

Your Action: Check your Google, Yelp, and Facebook ratings. Note your star rating and number of reviews on each platform.

Question 10

What's Your Current Revenue — and Where Do You Want It to Be?

We're not asking to be nosy. We need to understand the scale of your business so we can recommend the right level of investment. A $200K business and a $2M business need different strategies. Tell us where you are now and where you want to go — we'll help map the path.

Your Action: Share your approximate annual revenue and your revenue goal for the next 12-24 months.
